When Your Username Is Taken
If you find your username is already taken, don't worry. Here are some suggestions to help you get the username you want when it is already taken.
Suggestions | Username Taken | Username Suggestion |
---|---|---|
Add a number to your username | Moondancer | Moondancer31 |
Add an underscore or other symbol in your username | Moondancer | Moon_dancer |
Use numbers instead of letters throughout your username | Moondancer | M00ndancer |
How to Replace Numbers for Letters in Usernames
Replacing a number for a letter is a creative way to write usernames. Sometimes programs demand that you have a capital letter and/or a number in your username, anyway, so instead of adding an arbitrary number at the end, you can exchange numbers for letters.
If your username is taken you can try to replace a letter with a number to see if it that name's spelling is still available.
A = 4
B = 8
E = 3
G = 6
I = 1
O = 0
S = 5
T = 7
Examples:
YellowButterfly = Y3ll0w8utterfly
Hampster = H4mpster
GlitterBird = 6litter8ird
Good Usernames for Girls
A good username for a girl is:
- Easy to remember
- Will not give any identifying information
- The girl likes the name
- Easy for her to spell or type
- The girl identifies with the persona evoked by the name
Make sure to write down the username on a piece of paper as well as the password in case you lose it.

TTGReviews,
I agree, usernames that reflects their hobbies is a good option for girls. However, some girls may want to be more anonymous for safety reasons and steer away from anything that directly reflects them. It's always good to have plenty of options to choose from to help girls come up with their unique username.
TTGReviews on January 26, 2015:
I think these are great options for younger girls, but I think that it is better for teenagers to make a username that reflects their hobbies, what they like to do, or anonymous nicknames. What are your opinions?

I'm not a girl and i don't give anything to anyone online.
Actually you know what ?? If you just use ur head and think you will be fine. I have made friends online who even gave my number and everything. I don't put anything personal on social networks. No one needs to see who i date and who my dad is etc. I wish people would just think. And you can meet trustworthy people online and you will. Just think !!
Also if you are going to give out personal information don't do it on facebook do it on email or temp email if u that paranoid. If its private yes if public no.
For example
Do: Private message a friend your number.
Don't: Message your friend your number on a public forum or in a public post or even on ur profile.

Carly, I wasn't planning on writing a hub, but you just inspired me to write up all my ideas on the topic. I just published a hub about sexism in gaming, if you'd like to give it a read!

Harreymartin,
Thank you!
Carly Sullens (author) from St. Louis, Missouri on July 24, 2013:
Michelle,
You bring up a very interesting point, sexism in online gaming. My age predates me to online gaming so I haven't confronted this personally, but it makes sense. If you ever write a hub about it, I would love to read it. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Michelle Widmann on July 24, 2013:
I thought this hub was pretty interesting - it's really helpful considering that a lot more girls are becoming interested in the internet and video games. When I was young, it was mostly for boys to be interested in technology, but now that it's definitely wide-spread, not everyone knows how to remain "feminine" while still making a username.
Although I have to say, from experience, if you're trying to find a username for an online video game, girls may tend to avoid feminine usernames to avoid the sexism that comes along with it (boys may think you're not as good, etc.). But again, that's coming from when I was younger (which wasn't that long ago) and things are already changing in the department of sexism in video games.
Really helpful hub, thanks for sharing!
harreymartin on July 24, 2013:
This is really awesome hub. and Congratulations... your hub Hub of the day. :)
